Pin Risk

# Pin Risk

Pin Risk scans positions by underlying and highlights the closest strike that falls within a chosen expiration and pin width. Use it near option expiration to find names that may pin around a strike.

Open it from the sidebar: Pin Risk.

## What Pin Risk shows

For each underlying in scope, the tool evaluates option positions against:

1. An expiration date you choose

2. A pin width around the relevant price (in dollars or ticks)

It then surfaces the closest strike that falls inside that window so risk managers can focus on pin candidates before and into expiration.

## Page layout

1. Toolbar — Expiration, Pin Width type, width value, Apply

2. Results grid — pin risk rows/columns from the server

Confirm the sidebar shows Connected. When you first connect, the page sends the current parameters automatically so the grid can load.

## Set expiration

1. In the toolbar, find Expiration.

2. Choose a date (date picker).

By default, the page initializes Expiration to tomorrow.

Change the date whenever you want to scan a different expiration, then click Apply (see below).

## Set pin width

### Width type

Under Pin Width, choose:

| Mode | Label | Use when |

|---|---|---|

| Dollar | $ Dollar | Width is a dollar amount around the pin level |

| Ticks | Ticks | Width is a tick distance |

### Width value

Enter the numeric width next to the mode control.

| Mode | Default (typical) | Notes |

|---|---|---|

| $ Dollar | 0.50 | Step 0.05; practical range up to 100.0 |

| Ticks | 10 | Whole ticks; practical range up to 1000 |

Switching between $ Dollar and Ticks uses the value stored for that mode (dollar and tick inputs are remembered separately).

## Apply parameters

Changing Expiration or Pin Width does not refresh the report until you apply.

1. Adjust Expiration and/or Pin Width.

2. Click Apply (checkmark + Apply).

3. Wait for the grid to refresh.

Apply is enabled only when the current values differ from the last applied set. If Apply is dimmed, the grid already reflects the toolbar values.

> Tip: After connect, an initial parameter send runs automatically. Use Apply for every later change.

> Screenshot: Apply enabled after editing width or expiration.

## Work with the results grid

The grid lists pin-risk results for the applied parameters.

Use standard grid tools:

| Task | How |

|---|---|

| Sort | Click a column header |

| Filter | Click the filter icon in a column header → Apply |

| Show/hide columns | Right-click a column header → Column Chooser → Apply |

| Resize / reorder | Drag column edges or headers |

Shared how-to: [Working with Grids](#).

Scroll pauses live refresh briefly, then resumes when scrolling stops.

## Practical workflows

### Tomorrow’s expiration scan

1. Open Pin Risk (Expiration defaults to tomorrow).

2. Set Pin Width to $ Dollar 0.50 (or your desk standard).

3. Confirm Connected; wait for the initial load.

4. Review underlyings / strikes in the grid.

5. Filter to names you trade or to non-empty pin candidates.

### Wider pin window (ticks)

1. Switch Pin Width to Ticks.

2. Enter a wider tick distance (for example 20).

3. Click Apply.

4. Compare the candidate list to the tighter dollar run.

### Specific expiration day

1. Set Expiration to the board date of interest.

2. Click Apply.

3. Sort/filter the grid to prioritize largest risk or closest pins.

4. Follow up in Market Risk or Run Scenarios for names that matter.

---

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | What to try |

|---|---|

| Grid empty / not updating | Confirm Connected; click Apply after changing parameters |

| Apply disabled | Values already match the last applied set — change something first |

| Wrong expiration | Check the Expiration date, then Apply |

| Dollar vs ticks confusion | Confirm which Pin Width mode is selected before reading the numeric value |

| Too many / too few names | Tighten or widen the pin width, then Apply |

| Cannot find a column | Header context menu → Column Chooser |

---

## Quick reference

| I want to… | Do this |
