Scenario Analysis Chart
Scenario Analysis is the side panel on Run Scenarios that plots slide P&L across scenario columns for one or more series (accounts, symbols, or other hierarchy labels). Use it to compare paths, spot best/worst scenarios, add limit lines, and export charts for review.
Open from Scenario Risk → Run Scenarios after a slide has results.

Scenario Analysis vs grid heatmap
Run Scenarios has two visual tools—do not confuse them:
| Control | Toolbar | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Flame icon (**Toggle heatmap**) | On the results grid | Colors scenario cells in the grid by magnitude |
| Chart icon (**Toggle scenario analysis chart**) | Opens the Scenario Analysis panel | Line/bar/area/composed/heatmap charts of selected series |
This article covers the Scenario Analysis panel. Grid heatmap is a quick on-grid color overlay only.

Open the panel
Option A — Chart button
1. Run a slide so the results grid has data.
2. Click the chart icon (tooltip: Toggle scenario analysis chart).
3. The Scenario Analysis panel opens on the right.
Option B — Click hierarchy cells
1. Click a cell in the first six columns of a data row (not + ALL / - ALL).
2. That column becomes the group-by (series label), the panel opens if closed, and the row is toggled into the chart selection.
3. Click more rows (hierarchy or scenario cells while the panel is open) to add or remove series.
Close with ✕ in the panel header (selection clears when the panel closes).
What gets plotted
- X-axis (scenarios): Numeric columns after the frozen hierarchy columns—typically price/vol scenario P&L columns from the template.
- Series: Values from the group-by column (the hierarchy column you clicked, or the default). Labels like + ALL / - ALL are excluded.
- Y-axis: P&L (or other numeric scenario values) for each selected series.
Non-scenario fields (for example Type, Open NLV, Equity, Beta, VaR, Max Loss, and similar metadata columns) are not used as scenario points on the chart.
You need at least one selected series and at least one scenario column. Otherwise the panel shows a prompt such as Select at least one {column} to view the chart or No scenario columns found in grid.
Select series
At the top of the panel:
1. Expand {Group-by column name} (N selected) (for example Account or Underlying).
2. Click chips to select or deselect series.
3. Use Select All when the list is expanded.
Selection stays in sync with rows you click in the grid while the panel is open.
> Tip: Start with a few series; too many lines make the chart hard to read. Use Stats to compare Min/Max/Avg without plotting everyone.
Chart types (**Type**)
| Type | Best for |
|---|---|
| Line (default) | Path of P&L across scenarios |
| Bar | Discrete scenario comparison |
| Area | Filled magnitude under the path |
| Composed | Mixed presentation of the same scenario series |
| Heatmap | Table-style intensity of series × scenario (in the panel—not the grid Flame toggle) |
Chart title area: P&L by Scenario.
Stats
Click Stats to open Statistics Summary for each selected series:
- Min / Max / Avg / Std across scenarios
- Best scenario (highest value)
- Worst scenario (lowest value)
Use this for a quick desk readout before exporting.
Reference lines (**Lines**)
Click Lines to open Reference Lines:
- Show Zero Line — horizontal zero reference (on by default).
- + Add — add a custom threshold (value, label, color).
- Remove individual thresholds with ✕.
Use targets or loss limits so paths that cross a level are obvious in meetings or screenshots.
Zoom and pan
When there are many scenario columns:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Mouse wheel over the chart | Zoom toward the cursor |
| + / − buttons (or + / = / - keys when focused) | Zoom in / out |
| Drag horizontally (when zoomed) | Pan along scenarios |
| Reset Zoom, double-click, or 0 / Escape | Full scenario range |
A (Zoomed: …) label appears while a subset of scenarios is visible. Zoom resets when chart data or Type changes.
Export
With data and series selected, the header shows:
| Button | Output |
|---|---|
| CSV | scenario_analysis_YYYY-MM-DD.csv — scenario values for selected series |
| Image | PNG of the current chart (or panel heatmap table) |
Exports use the current selection, type, and zoom view where applicable.
Typical workflows
1. Compare two books across the slide — Run slide → click two account rows → Line → optional zero line → Image for the huddle.
2. Find the painful scenario — Select series → Stats → note Worst → zoom the chart around that column → open [Slide Details](#) from the grid if you need positions.
3. Stress vs limit — Lines → add a limit → confirm which series break it under down-vol / down-price columns.
4. Dense template — Zoom to the center scenarios first; export CSV for offline pivot if needed.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to try |
|---|---|
| “Select at least one …” | Expand the series list or click hierarchy rows in the grid. |
| “No scenario columns found” | Run a template that produces numeric scenario columns; wait for the grid to finish. |
| Chart empty after click | Avoid + ALL / - ALL; click a real book/symbol row. |
| Wrong series labels | Click a different hierarchy column (columns 1–6) to change group-by. |
| Too cluttered | Deselect series; use Line + zoom; or use Stats only. |
| Confused with red/green grid | Flame = grid heatmap; Chart panel Type → Heatmap is separate. |
